Have a beast as a pet?

Now the word ‘beast‘ does not have pleasant connotations. It’s used to describe something less than human, contemptible, or hard to control. We’re all familiar with the phrase, “That’s just the nature of the beast.” Isn’t it odd that the phrase is often used to rationalize some behaviour’s negative effect that could have been avoided had we just seen it for what it really is? Have we tried to act as if the beast isn’t really a beast in the first place?! That’s self deception. What harms us … harms us. Period. We can’t rationalize it away. The negative effects prove otherwise.

Here’s the deceptive part that so often lures us in: sin is beautiful (not unattractive) and pleasurable at the start (the pleasure is only temporary - and soon leaves us worse off than before).

Are you like me and have a pet sin which you have allowed to rule your life, treat you like trash, and basically take over?

This is the dangerous reality of sin. It can be a pleasant daytime friend - but the bottom line is it’s a TERRIBLE MASTER! Hey, let’s get real. Sin doesn’t have to be our master. Join us as we say to this stuff that destroys our soul, “I Don’t Want You Anymore!”

The reality is: in Jesus Christ there is freedom and power over the sin that wages war on our souls. It doesn’t matter how big it is or what kind of hold it has on your life. Nothing is too big for God. Give it to Him so He can heal and transform your life! He can, He will, and He wants to do it…!
