“What do you do when you face a really tough decision - when you know you need to do the right thing, but you also know it’s going to cost you considerably and involve sacrifice or risk you’d rather avoid?
We all face this. All of us, from time to time, are confronted by challenges we’d rather walk away from than accept.
We can take comfort. Even our Savior, in facing what awaited Him at the Cross, prayed, “Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me…” However, there is a pivotal follow-up in His next words: “…nevertheless, not as I will but as You will” (Matt. 26:39).
“Nevertheless…YES, FATHER!” What a powerful lesson resident in those few words. They represent a full and honest recognition of the human difficulties ahead, but weigh in with the dynamic of spiritual recognition that God’s ways and will are inevitably the best choice. His ways reach far beyond our understanding at the moment, but hindsight will always evidence they yield fruitfulness and blessing well beyond what we could have seen or imagined while we were facing the trial.”
