What time is it?

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

“America is in a crisis and unless we have a moral rebirth, we will join the graveyard of the nations. It’s time to wake up. Time is passing. It’s time to look up. Jesus is coming. It’s time to sober up. Satan is working. It’s time to pray up. Mountains need moving.” - Adrian Rogers

From God's Word...
Matthew 17:20

And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.”

Give me a whole heart

Shannone Wexelberg - We Celebrate You

Shannon Wexelberg - ‘Whole Heart’ (MP3 clip)

Give me a whole heart
To fully love You
Give me an undivided heart
Totally free
I ask You to heal my broken places
The lingering wound Your love replaces
Bind every part
Give me a whole heart.

Give me a whole heart
To fully trust You
Give me an undivided heart
Completely at peace
Come in and restore what has been taken
The depths of my soul that have been shaken
Bind every part
Give me a whole heart.

Lord, help me to see
Your abundant love for me
Help me to rise
So I can soar on eagles’ wings
Oh Lord, help me to go
Where I’ve never gone before
Help me to fly
As You breathe live to me once more.

From God's Word...

Psalm 86:11-13

Teach me your way, O LORD,
and I will walk in your truth;
give me an undivided heart,
that I may fear your name.

I will praise you, O Lord my God, with all my heart;
I will glorify your name forever.

For great is your love toward me;
you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.

Is America addicted to porn?

Thursday, February 21st, 2008

cocaine

Merriam-Webster defines addiction as:

compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful

So, is America addicted to porn?

That’s the question that Nightline asks as porn supporters, detractors and Yale students debate the role of porn in the U.S.

Studies show that porn is now mainstream in America:

  • Yearly revenues of the sex and porn industry in the U.S. are bigger than the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball combined.
  • The largest group of viewers of Internet porn is children between ages 12 and 17.
  • 40 million Americans regularly view Internet pornography.
  • 57% of pastors say that addiction to pornography is the most sexually damaging issue to their congregation.
  • The porn industry is not all glitz and glamour for the porn stars:

  • 66% of porn stars have Genital Herpes.
  • 90% of porn stars use drugs.

“You can recollect the sayings of great men; you treasure up the verses of renowned poets; ought you not to be profound in your knowledge of the words of God, so that you may be able to quote them readily when you would solve a difficulty, or overthrow a doubt?” - Charles Spurgeon

    A summary of the Bible

    Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I believe in this one inspired statement, we have a summary of what the Bible is about. The theme runs from Genesis to Revelation. Let’s take it look at this verse (in bold) and process it (in italics) as we go:

    Romans 6:23

    For the wages of sin

Wait, I’ve heard a lot about sin. You mean if I mess up, there’s a price I must pay? A consequence?

    is death

The cost of sin is death? That’s serious!

    but,

Alright! There has to be an exception … whew!

the gift of God is eternal life

Okay - God is real and He has offered us eternal life as a FREE gift? How can I receive it? I don’t want to die!

    in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Is that all? There are no strings attached? I don’t have to be ‘good enough’ or earn it? If I just accept Jesus Christ for who He is - I will have eternal life? If I believe that He died on the cross and rose again, all because I’m a sinner and cannot pay my own debt for sin?

Yes, that’s it in a nutshell. Only God can lay down His life and pick it back up again. He graciously does for us what we cannot do for ourselves - and offers this gift to all who will believe and accept it! That is the love of God: He gives when we don’t have anything to offer Him in return. He just wants us to come to Him and experience Him - by first taking Him at His word. That’s faith. Faith is knowing in your heart something is true even if you currently can’t see it with your eyes. But once you come to God, you experience Him and know Him even though you cannot see Him. Your faith will be strengthened by His love and His Spirit working in your life.

    From God's Word...
    Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
