Merriam-Webster defines addiction as:

compulsive need for and use of a habit-forming substance (as heroin, nicotine, or alcohol) characterized by tolerance and by well-defined physiological symptoms upon withdrawal; broadly : persistent compulsive use of a substance known by the user to be harmful

So, is America addicted to porn?

That’s the question that Nightline asks as porn supporters, detractors and Yale students debate the role of porn in the U.S.

Studies show that porn is now mainstream in America:

Yearly revenues of the sex and porn industry in the U.S. are bigger than the NFL, NBA and Major League Baseball combined.

The largest group of viewers of Internet porn is children between ages 12 and 17.

40 million Americans regularly view Internet pornography.

57% of pastors say that addiction to pornography is the most sexually damaging issue to their congregation.

The porn industry is not all glitz and glamour for the porn stars:

66% of porn stars have Genital Herpes.

90% of porn stars use drugs.
