Jesus or an idol?

One of the most debated issues in the church these days is whether scripture is inerrant or not. Is this an important issue? Scripture says it is…
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Just as we can take a carving and whittle away pieces of it until it no longer is what it originally was, the same goes for the truth of who Jesus is. When we dismiss parts of scripture, we end up with a false Jesus - an idol that we have shaped (not by hands but by our minds, our will) into what we want Him to be. That’s dangerous as we’re no longer worshipping God as He truly is. We are putting our faith in a lie and there is no hope in that.
As a little girl evangelist in the Flannery O’Connor novel The Violent Bear It Away said:
“Do you know who Jesus is? Jesus is the Word of God and Jesus is love. The Word of God is love and do you know what love is, you people? If you don’t know what love is you won’t know Jesus when He comes. You won’t be ready.”
