Is Anyone Praying for Paris?
- By Kerri Pomarolli

As I turned off the nightly news this evening that was flooded with video footage and media frenzy about Paris Hilton’s jail sentence, I was saddened to think that even Christians were joining the frenzy of “Paris Bashing”. We were not even giving her the benefit of the doubt when she claimed to have been exploring her faith in prison. I know we’ve been burned many times by Hollywood types who have lost their stardom and suddenly found” Jesus” and want to make a new start in the Christian market to revitalize their careers. I for one know there aren’t too many card carrying sold out Christians here in Hollywood willing to talk about it. But I was asked to go on CNN news Showbiz tonight and give my thoughts on Paris’s situation. They billed my segment as ”Defending Paris!”
Alas they never make me look popular. Last time I was defending Mel Gibson! But I thought to myself. Isn’t it our job as Christians to believe in Christ’s ability to reach the lost? Does that mean everyone unless you’re rich and pretty and in Hollywood like the Paris Hiltons and Lindsey Lohans that so desperately need Jesus? Everyone seemed to be disregarding the fact that maybe during this time of crisis in Paris’ life she could be so broken that she would see God’s face? It happened to Saul the murderer and countless others. Or what about modern day Christians who didn’t start out that way such as actor Stephen Baldwin who got radically saved a few years ago or what about Mel Gibson who’s taken quite the beating for his beliefs. I think the basic principle of our faith is to believe that God wants everyone to know and love him and eventually have eternal life.
If we’re really Christians, and one of our neighbors on this planet is suffering shouldn’t we be acting differently than the rest of the jaded and skeptical world? Shouldn’t we be shedding a ray of hope and claiming that God can do anything including speaking to the rich and famous out here in “Hollyweird?” Couldn’t there be a lesson we can teach our children in this situation? We have them praying for others far and wide. Why not teach them to pray for people in the news? God wants to save them too. It’s not so far fetched. But I see Christians limiting God and basically shaking their heads at Paris and her special treatment in prison and wanting some sort of “justice”. I do believe she needed to go to jail. Punishment can bring repentance and even conviction. But while she’s in there and when she comes out trying to make a new start, is anyone out there willing to join me in actually doing something edgy such as “Praying for Paris?”
