Cross Purposes

Jesus on the Cross

Coming Sunday April 1, the Coral Ridge Hour will air a TV special called ‘Cross Purposes’ …

In this one-hour documentary we explore God’s purposes for the Cross and we counter some bad theology that denies the atonement of Christ. You will hear from such experts as Dr. Kennedy, Paul Maier, and Michael Youssef.

Here’s an excerpt from James Kennedy’s book of the same title…

The Sin of Man:
Merciful Father, when I see Your Son scourged and crowned with piercing thorns, when I see Him languishing on the Cross, please let me remember it was my sins that brought Him to such a place.

The Justice of God:
Every sin you have ever committed will be visited by the infinite wrath of God. The only question is whether God’s wrath will fall on that sin when it is on you or when it is on Christ on the Cross.

The Love of God:
Wonder of wonders that the Creator would die for the creatures’ sin. How astonishing that Jesus, there on the Cross, would pray for those who even just then had nailed Him to that horrible Cross.

Impacting this generation with truth

Vicky Beeching

“For this media-focused generation, kids are much quicker to download a new song to their iPod than to dust off C.S. Lewis or A.W. Tozier. Songwriters have a tremendous responsibility now because people remember the songs they sing on Sunday more than the sermons. I want to carry that responsibility well so I can impact this generation with truth.” - Vicky Beeching

False barriers

Wednesday, March 28th, 2007

Have you ever been working on something and had to work around an obstacle that makes the work harder or slower - it simply got in the way and impeded progress? You might even find yourself grumbling that this ’stupid thing’ was in the way - and then you realize that it is moveable and all you had to do was move it out of the way. We should of looked closely at the beginning and not assumed something that wasn’t true. What we thought was a barrier wasn’t really a barrier at all.

I wonder how often we do this to spiritual things as well?

Jesus is full of grace and truth

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

From God's word...
John 1:14

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

What does that tell us? Grace and truth are not mutually exclusive - they are not at odds with each other. Yet, for us - living with each of these is not easy. Truth without grace is legalism. Grace without truth is the heresy of a license to sin. It seems that when interacting with others regarding the sharing of the Gospel, our first reaction to their doubt and inability to clearly see what we’re saying is usually not the right one. How do we find that balance of grace and truth? I don’t believe we can. We must let the One who is full of grace and truth do it for us. When we are full of the Spirit - how will we not also be full of grace and truth?
