Salvation Pumpkin - Jack O Lantern alternative
Here’s an interesting ‘alternative’ you can use to teach the kids about Jesus.
Salvation Pumpkin
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Things you will need:
1 Medium to Large Pumpkin (Works best with the taller ones since the cross is tall)
A Bible (To read the scriptures)
A candle (To put inside of the pumpkin)
A knife (to carve the cross)
Newspaper (to cover the surface you will be working on, or do this activity outside)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
1. Cut off the top of the Pumpkin (just as you would for a Jack-O-Lantern)
Let the children help you clean out all the gooey insides. Talk to the children about how the stuff you are pulling out of the pumpkin is like sin that is in the heart of an unsaved person. When Jesus saves us He cleans all the sin away, just as we are doing to the pumpkin.

2. Cut a large Cross out of the side of the Pumpkin.
(Just like you would cut a face on a Jack-O-Lantern)
Talk to the kids about Calvary, Tell them about how Jesus died on a Cross so that we could be saved and go to Heaven! Read Romans 5:8

3. After you are done cleaning out the pumpkin and carving the cross talk to the kids about how it was just a pumpkin, but now it is something beautiful! Talk to them about when a person gets saved they are a new creature in Christ.
Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 from the Bible
What does it mean to be a new creature in Christ?
What are some of the things that change after a person gets saved?

4. Light a candle inside the pumpkin and turn off the lights.
Read Ephesians 2:10, Matthew 5:14-16, & 2 Corinthians 4:6 from the Bible
Talk to the kids about how after we get saved our “light” should shine for Jesus.
What are some ways that our light can shine for Jesus for the world to see?
How is the light that shines through our pumpkin like our light that should shine for Jesus?
