What can God do?

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Here’s some things that have been on my mind recently.

Does God want to work through me?
Is God capable of working through me?
What can God do through me for His glory?
What can God do through me to reach people for eternity?

And finally, this seems to be the thought that my mind keeps coming back to…

If I am willing - will God NOT work through me?

Ask yourself these questions too. I’m not sure where all this is leading but it’s certainly not boring!

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Quote of the day

“Cults use our vocabulary, but they don’t use our dictionary.” - Charles Swindoll

I was reminded of this when I was talking with a couple of Mormons several months ago. We were talking about grace and I didn’t understand their interpretation of Romans 11:6. I said that their interpretation goes against the very definition of ‘grace’. Grace is defined as ‘unmerited favor.’ They disagreed. Then they went to their customized Bible and looked up ‘grace’ in a contained dictionary and I discovered that they define it differently. Their definition of grace depends upon good works - or merit.

Remember Surrender

All Right Here

Sara Groves - ‘Remember Surrender’ Windows Media Real Media

Remember surrender
Remember the rest
Remember that weight lifting off of your chest
And realizing that it’s not up to you and it never was

Remember surrender
Remember relief
Remember how tears rolled down both of your cheeks
As the warmth of a heavenly father came closing in

I want to do that again
Why can’t I live there
And make my home
In sweet surrender
I want to do so much more than remember

Remember surrender
Remember the peace
Remember how soundly you fell fast asleep
In the face of your troubles your future still shone like the morning sun

Remember surrender
Remember that sound
Of all of those voices inside dying down
But one who speaks clearly of helping and healing you deep within

I want to do that again
Why can’t I live there
And make my home
In sweet surrender
I want to do so much more than remember

Resting on the truth

Monday, August 21st, 2006

Aren’t you thankful that God hasn’t based salvation on intelligence, looks, or talent? It’s not about us, it’s about Him. Here’s a lyric from the hymn ‘My Faith Has Found a Resting Place’ to remind us of some important truths of the Christian faith…

My heart is leaning on the Word
The Living Word of God
Salvation by my Savior’s name
Salvation through His blood

I need no other argument
I need no other plea
It is enough that Jesus died
And that He died for me

My great Physician heals the sick
The lost He came to save
For me His precious blood He shed
For me His life He gave

I need no other argument
I need no other plea
It is enough that Jesus died
And that He died for me

“America has the highest incarceration rates of any nation in the industrialized world. The prison population has grown tenfold since Prison Fellowship was founded (in 1976). Today there are 2.3 million men and women behind bars. Each year, 600,000 of them are rearrested within three years.” - Mark Earley, Prison Fellowship
