I realized I was watching tv and didn't know why. I would just turn it on and not really know why I was doing it. For some reason, we allow TV to do that to us. If I came home from work and started mowing my lawn out of habit (when I did it yesterday - when it didn't need to be mowed after one day), then I would have a problem. How can we do that with TV and consider it a good use of our time? I got tired of aimlessly and nonsensically mowing everyday ...

You turn off tv's in public to which you do not own and therefore have no right to control? What is it you are trying to block out? Most public tv's show public broadcasting which is educational at the least. Maybe you're afraid of the news? Are you trying to pull off pranks with your actions? I'm wondering if your actions could be considered unlawful as well.
