“Like the brilliance of a priceless jewel that appears even more glorious when displayed on black velvet, Dr. Jeremiah describes God’s grace as most vividly revealed against the backdrop of a sin-blackened life. Using the stories of John Newton and the apostle Paul as the “black velvet,” he unveils the timeless jewel of God’s grace. As I have read this engaging book, I have been led in heartfelt gratitude and humble worship of One who not only withholds punishment from His children, but who offers us Heaven’s treasures instead. Read it, and be recaptured…by Him.”

Something to Celebrate in New Orleans

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006

Habakkuk 3:17-18

Trust in a Time of Trouble

Fig trees may no longer bloom,
or vineyards produce grapes;
olive trees may be fruitless,
and harvest time a failure;
sheep pens may be empty,
and cattle stalls vacant–

but I will still celebrate
because the LORD God
saves me.

In the early days after Hurricane Katrina, the nation watched as the day-by-day accounts of New Orleans’ horror unfolded. As a result of high winds and rising flood waters, New Orleans became part of the sea for two weeks and more than 250,000 homes were rendered uninhabitable. Throughout the Gulf region at least 2 million people were displaced to virtually every state in the continental United States.

The Celebration of Hope at the New Orleans Arena, March 11–12, will proclaim God’s faithfulness in the midst of life’s storms. Featuring worship (led by Point of Grace, George Huff, Nicole C. Mullen, and Ricky Skaggs), a time of prayer, testimonies, a word from Billy Graham, and a message delivered by Franklin Graham.

All seats are free. Tickets are not required.

Prison Fellowship update

*

Did you know:
The United States has the highest rate of incarceration of any country in the world. One out of every 37 adults (5,600,000) living in the United States today has served or is serving time in prison.

At our last Operation Starting Line event a few months ago, I was dramatically reminded how important this ministry is — in giving hope to people who have no hope. There were two to three hundred inmates gathered in the prison yard where I preached that morning. After the invitation, one of them came up to me. Like so many inmates in prison, he had the scars of a hard life on his face, teeth missing, deep wrinkles, and weary eyes, but with a beaming smile he said to me, “Thank you for coming. All of my life people have told me that I would never amount to anything. Today, for the first time, I realized through God I can.”

- Chuck Colson, Chairman of Prison Fellowship Ministries

Matthew 25:43-45
I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’
“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
