Teens Putting Themselves at Risk Online
Here are some things to keep in mind…
- What you write is similar to what is written in a newspaper or displayed on TV or other mass media. If you don’t want that info out there for everyone (good and bad) to potentially know about, don’t post it.
- Don’t advertise yourself. You don’t know who is on the other side of the monitor - reading, taking notes, and bookmarking your site. Predators can find this info just as easily as your friends that you know are reading it.
- Avoid personal info such as the details of where you live, schedules you keep, places you like to go. If your friends most likely already know this info, why are you posting it? Remember, the predators are out there and they’ll be looking for this info. Don’t make it easy for them.
- Remember 1, 2, and 3! While the internet is one of the most exciting and innovative creations ever - it’s also one of the most dangerous.
