Truth Matters

Friday, December 30th, 2005

Do we follow what sounds good? Do we follow our own logic, our own feelings about what’s right and wrong - or do we have faith that what God has said is true? Faith isn’t that hard actually when you think about it…I had faith that what I ate and drank this morning will not make me ill. I had faith that the bridge that I crossed on the way to work today would support my car. I had faith as I drove that the other vehicles on the road were not ‘out to get me’ and would stay in their own lanes. But what if I never did any of those things? I would never know - I would simply be guessing. The key to faith is acting upon it instead of just thinking about it. We learn more about God and His faithfulness by acting upon His word by faith.

So, do we trust our feelings or do we believe in something more sure than that? What are the consequences of making the wrong choice?

A Life Worth Living - Max’s Classroom

Truth matters, and the truth is we are creatures made in the image of a loving God, and life has an ultimate value. So beware of the smooth-talking philosophers in our midst. Their position may seem very appealing and even logical. But it’s a deadly logic.

The Gospel transforms lives

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

Is it any wonder that the Gospel literally means ‘good news’? Just think about it - no matter who we are, or what we’ve done - hope, healing, and salvation is offered by God! God wants to have a relationship with us. Here’s another testimony to the power of the Gospel and God’s love for us…

Quote of the day - Antonio Stradivari

Thursday, December 29th, 2005

I found this on the Family Life website

The story is told of a man who lived centuries ago in Italy who was a maker of violins. He made it a rule that no violin would ever leave his shop until it was as nearly perfect as human care could make it.

He used to say, “God needs violins to send His music into the world. And if my violins are defective, God’s music will be spoiled. Other men will make other violins, but no man shall make a better one.” That man was Antonio Stradivari, maker of what are still considered the world’s finest instruments.

One final thought. We also are God’s instruments created to honor God. We should live lives without defect, so as not to spoil the music that God wants to play through us.

Is truth important?

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

The enemy works through imitation and deception. He first imitates something true, and then subtly perverts it to deceive us into error. Knowing and seeing the truth is what reveals to us the error of our decisions. The enemy will take us further than we ever want to go, and rarely do we realize where we are until it’s too late. So, the truth is indespensable. For a chilling reminder, check out today’s BreakPoint commentary where Chuck Colson asks:

Why would anyone deliberately turn his or her back on the truth?

What is Truth?

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Truth is not subject to my opinions.
Truth is still true, even if no one believes it.
Truth is of the utmost importance.
Truth is the difference between being right, and being wrong - yet believing with all your heart that you are right.
Truth can be ignored, but cannot be avoided.
Truth can be denied, but must be reckoned with eventually.
Truth is the only thing that matters - the only thing that remains after this life.
Truth is reality.

Joy has come

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

While it’s bitter cold outside,
our hearts are warmed by His presence.
While the world around us changes,
the One who has come to live inside of us is unchanging.
Joy has come.

John 14:26-27

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
