The Making and Ministry of a Man of God
These are the sermon notes I took from an Adrian Rogers sermon this past June as he spoke at a pastor’s conference:
The Making and Ministry of a Man of God.
Judges 6
Gideon - afraid of the Midianites
“I’ve seen men too big for God to use, but I’ve never seen a man too small.”
Five factors in the life of Gideon:
1) Man of Vision - had an encounter, felt a call, given a challenge by the living God
Judges 6:12 -
There has never been a greater opportunity to preach the Gospel than today.
God is still the same God.
We need to put our eyes on God - and be transformed by Him.
What a great God we have!
Note: We have the N.T., Holy Spirit - something Gideon didn’t have.
God uses men of vision.
2) Man of Valor - God doesn’t need numbers
Judges 6:12, 7:2-3
“go home” - Why? Fear is infectious!
Dt. 20:8
2 Tim 1:7 - Spirit of Fear
You will never be a man of God until you’re a man of valor.
a) God gives us the spirit of power - His presence.
Jesus said, ‘Go, I’ll be with you always’
b) enriches us with Love. Love casts out fear!
c) enlightens us with a sound mind.
If God be for us, who can be against us?
The devil has NO power over us except what we allow him to have!
3) Man of Vigilence
Judges 7:4-
We can’t let any need take away our vigilence.
Watch and Pray. Be sober. Be vigilant.
NEVER let down your guard.
We need to be afraid of sin.
Temptation is often an unexpected weakness.
Guard your life with Holiness.
4) Man of Vitality
Judges 7:12
God puts His vitality into men - He gets the Glory.
The Spirit ‘clothed’ Gideon.
1 Cor 1:26-27 - God chooses the weak to confound the mighty.
Jesus has given us authority.
Barley bread - plain
5) Man of Victory - God gave Gideon the victory.
Judges 7:15-21
Weapons of warfare - not carnal
Matter of Boldness, Brokeness, and Brightness
“Here is Your word, Your truth, let Your light shine”
Result: Satan will flee.
