It is telling that “I” is the subject of every sentence.

Christianity is not about “me”
Roger at ThoughtQuotient posted a series of “I” statements related to “who ‘I’ am in Christ”. I’ve seen similar lists before, and I imagine that such lists are thought to perform the task of encouraging believers who are having self…

ICTHUS, It helps to know who we are in Christ as we reach out to the world. Surely there are some things more deserving of our criticism. The devil loves to see a house divided while he goes about deceiving a lost world.

I don’t understand this post. Are the statements not true? I don’t want to mislead anyone, but I don’t want to downplay God’s love for us either. After all, the statement of ‘who I am in Christ’ speaks about God’s character, not mine. Christ died for me, you, and everyone…and we’re sinners. There is certainly nothing in there that we can boast about - or say that we were responsible for. We don’t deserve anything on this list - but look at what God offers and gives to those that believe! Wow. That’s awesome, not something to worry about.

When it comes to our identity, God wants us to look at HIM and find who we are- not ourselves. And we do this by looking at the Bible, the Word of God. It tells us who we are because of Whose we are. This is not arrogance, but confidence in a love unlike the world’s love. Who could love so completely and wholly, such an undeserving creation. A thankless society, and give up His greatest possession of all- His Son, for each one of us. Accepting this is our greatest humility and faith- and it allows us to receive what Jesus died to give us- our true identity in Him.
