Kanye West - Jesus Walks
I caught the song “Jesus Walks” by Kanye West this weekend. The background vocals repeat the phrase “Jesus Walks” over and over. When we take a line from scripture or a song and repeat it over and over again until it becomes a prayer we call that Lectio Divina. “Divine words”. Do you think God would listen to a prayer that came from a song with such violent images?
Kanye West is seen several times looking rather messiah like or at least “angelic”. Do you think God is present here and now everyday? Have you ever heard the phrase “God created man so he could be here all the time”? What do you think it means?
Read Matthew 28:20. Does “always” really mean “ALWAYS”?
Is it difficult to accept that criminals and drug dealers experience the grace of God? Just thought I’d put these questions out there. I’m curious to see what the thoughtquotient.com readers have to say.

Yes, I do believe God is there with Kanye, as he is with all who speak the Word of God. Although their actions, or words may not show it to us at times, just as it is with some evangelical preachers we see on TV, quoting the Bible about being pious, then read about their indiscretions in the newspaper. I do believe that criminals can experience God. I don’t know of your story, but mine is one of getting to a very low point in my life before I gave up my own ways, and turned to God. I would like to think that Kanye is trying to trying to reach out to other urban youth in the only way he knows will get their attention. He makes it hard for me to think that way sometimes, especially with his attitude towards “getting recognized” and rewarded for his achievements.
