Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible III, and Katie Holmes
I admit. I’m a fan of Mission Impossible. While searching for some Mission Impossible III news on the Web, I came across this article - Did Tom Cruise try to recruit Scarlett Johansson to Scientology?

The “Lost in Translation” star was expected to co-star with Cruise in “Mission: Impossible III” but was dropped because of “scheduling conflicts.” But it seems that there may have been other conflicts as well. Cruise invited Johansson to a Scientology center where he showed her literature about joining his controversial church, according to a report. “After two hours of proselytizing,” according to RadarMagazine.com, “Cruise opened a door to reveal a second room full of upper-level Scientologists who had been waiting to dine with the pair, at which point the cool-headed ingénue politely excused herself.”
Tom Cruise recruiting for Scientology on a movie set? Next thing you know, he’ll be setting up Scientology tents with a volunteer minister during filming of a Spielberg movie. Oh wait. He already did that.
Did Katie Holmes - another ’starlet’ - take her place? FOXNews.com reports that there were 16 days in April where no one seemed to know where she was. The last time she was seen photographed was at a VH1 ‘Save The Music’ concert in New York. A few weeks later, she appeared in public in love with Tom Cruise, holding hands with Tom Cruise - you’ve seen the pictures. And now, they’re engaged.
The FOXNEWS.com article also mentions the following
- she has fired her manager
- she has fired her agent
- she’s acquired a new best friend who’s father donated millions to Scientology
- a childhood friend - Meghan Birrie - no longer is seen with Holmes
I’m sure this is all just coincidence.

Shannon, the tone of this post sounds a little “surprised” (if I may) that Cruise may have “recruited” (evangelized or proselytized?) Johansson to Scientology. But if this was evangelicalism that we were discussing, would things be different? What if Evangelical Actor was setting up “Christian Tents” with a volunteer minister during the filming of a Spielberg movie? Would this be considered ok? Do the rules change if said faith is Christianity rather than Scientology?
I’d be interested in your thoughts.

I personally wasn’t surprised at Cruise’s rumored discussion of Johansson with Scientology. I was trying to feign mock surprise as an attempt at humor. Do the research.
Not meaning to split theological hairs, but how are you defining evangelize and proselytize?
Is there a difference?
The word evangelist comes from the Greek word (”eu-aggelos”) for ‘bringing good news’.
What ‘good news’ do you see Scientology bringing?
And if there isn’t a ‘good news’, shouldn’t we be concerned about fellow humans being deceived?

Tom Cruise is at the top of the list of “People Who Need to Go Away.” I’m so sick of him being in the news EVERY STINKING DAY!!!!
