Speaking up for those who cannot…
I was listening to the Focus on the Family broadcast today and Joni Eareckson Tada mentioned a Bible verse that seemed to really hit home regarding the Terri Schiavo case:
Proverbs 31:8-9
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves,
for the rights of all who are destitute.
Speak up and judge fairly;
defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
Also, as the Schindler family spiritual advisor was recalling his time with Terri, he mentioned that when he would pray for her, she would close her eyes. I am reminded that we do not know what Terri was comprehending all those years but I’m sure that we can’t be sure. While some may be saying that her eternal destiny lies in whatever decision was made before her tragic collapse all those years ago, I’m inclined to think that even in her disabled state she was more aware of what was going on than we might first think, and that God can speak to us and we can speak to Him.
