Christ setting the captives free…
In a recent letter from Prison Fellowship Ministries, we learned of how the Holy Spirit is working through the recent The Passion of the Christ movie as it is being shown in prisons around America…
…since August, due to the generosity of director/producer Mel Gibson and ICON entertainment, Prison Fellowship has offered the DVD or VHS of The Passion of the Christ to every prison in America. Over 1,300 copies have already been received by chaplains or wardens who have made special arrangements for showing the film. That represents 46% of all U.S. prisons and roughly 900,000 incarcerated men and women.
A pastor in Texas who volunteers and leads a Bible study class in a maximum security prison was there for a recent film presentation and believes that inmates in particular are more moved by the film because “they are more graphically aware of their need for deliverance, more sober about their need for a redeemer.”
Prison Fellowship President Mark Earley summed it up…
Nearly two thousand years since the crucifixion, Christ is still personally and powerfully connecting with prisoners. From a thief on the cross, to a former thief in a prison cell, to all of us, prisoner or free man, His message of grace is a word of hope to all of us who are sinners in need of a Savior.
