Superheroes offer insight into human nature, social observers say
I just finished reading this story at the Baptist Standard on the parable elements in some comic book stories - from HellBoy to Superman.
“It’s not about super powers,” says Michael Brewer, lifelong comics fan and author of a new book about “finding virtue, vice and what’s holy” in comics, Who Needs a Superhero?
The article mentions the Green Arrow’s sidekick Mia who was once a teenage runaway. During her days on the street, she contracted HIV.
“Having faced the trouble in her life,” Brewer said, “she wants to make a difference in the world. I can’t think of a more heroic thing to do.”
