Superheroes offer insight into human nature, social observers say
Saturday, March 19th, 2005I just finished reading this story at the Baptist Standard on the parable elements in some comic book stories - from HellBoy to Superman.
“It’s not about super powers,” says Michael Brewer, lifelong comics fan and author of a new book about “finding virtue, vice and what’s holy” in comics, Who Needs a Superhero?
The article mentions the Green Arrow’s sidekick Mia who was once a teenage runaway. During her days on the street, she contracted HIV.
“Having faced the trouble in her life,” Brewer said, “she wants to make a difference in the world. I can’t think of a more heroic thing to do.”
