Founding member / guitarist leaves Korn to focus on his religious beliefs

Just caught this on the AP. I probably couldn’t name you one Korn song. But, I do admire people putting action behind their beliefs.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A founding member of Korn is leaving the band to focus on his religious beliefs.

“Korn has parted ways with guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch, who has chosen Jesus Christ as his savior, and will be dedicating his musical pursuits to that end,” said a statement posted Tuesday on Korn’s Web site.

Welch told The Bakersfield Californian that his decision might be surprising to some. “A lot of people think I’m crazy. I don’t care.”

Welch said he’d become increasingly disenchanted with producing heavy metal music that invokes dark and morbid images.

“Those guys in the band, they’re not bad guys. They’re just a bunch of kids getting marketed how these guys in the big corporate firms want to do,” Welch said. “It makes us look like bad people, but we’re really just a bunch of kids who never had a chance to grow up.”

Head’s new Web site — www.HeadToChrist.com — launched Friday (February 25).

God has delivered him from a drug addiction that he thought he could never break free from.

Praise God for this and may others come to know Jesus as Savior through his testimony…i was a big korn fan before i accepted Jesus as savior and even after i did…for months i prayed for people like the guys from korn and it just seemed impossible to me that they will become Christians but God just made realize once again that nothing is impossible for him and i will keep on praying for him to grow and fall in love with God and for the other guys from korn…God bless

I just got through reading about Brian leaving the KoRn, and I’m still kind of in shock… I’ve been a KoRn fan since thier first album came out back in 94, and it was the greatest thing I had ever heard because of alot of the issues I was going through at the time. The music was a way for me to release my pain… I started singing, and I was always felt better after screaming my head off to an awesome song. As KoRn made more albums, they had a sort of evolution where they got less angsty and started getting more into melody and experimentation. At first I didnt like the change, but then I realized that it was better than them making the same record over and over. The other members of KoRn arent bad guys, christian or not, they just work with material that deals with negative issues that people have to deal with that are of a less attractive nature than alot of music. I really loved Brian’s work throughout the band’s career, and I wish that he werent leaving, but I know he has personal reasons why and I have to respect that. I’m glad he has converted back to christianity, and hopefully it will help his family life thrive all the better. Being a single dad is hard, and maybe God can give him the strength he needs to make the right decisions. I believe in God, but I dont live the christian lifestyle… I dont think anyone truly lives as God would have them live because we arent perfect. Because of that, I worship God in my own way… I wouldnt call it a religion, but I wouldnt call it hypocritical either. I cant wait to hear the new music he puts out, and I’ll always be a fan of his. I’ll miss him in KoRn’s music as well, but I’m sure they’ll make do like they always have when they hit trouble. Thanks for listening to me.

    Jamie,

Thanks for the comments! Remember - Christ just wants a relationship with us…and He’ll take care of the rest. It’s not ‘religion’, it’s not ‘lifestyle’, it’s just faith.

    Romans 10:9-13
Say the welcoming word to God–”Jesus is my Master”–embracing, body and soul, God’s work of doing in us what he did in raising Jesus from the dead. That’s it. You’re not “doing” anything; you’re simply calling out to God, trusting him to do it for you. That’s salvation. With your whole being you embrace God setting things right, and then you say it, right out loud: “God has set everything right between him and me!” Scripture reassures us, “No one who trusts God like this–heart and soul–will ever regret it.” It’s exactly the same no matter what a person’s religious background may be: the same God for all of us, acting the same incredibly generous way to everyone who calls out for help. “Everyone who calls, “Help, God!’ gets help.”
