Political Payback
Chuck Colson has some words of wisdom regarding faith and politics in the following commentary…
Does Bush ‘Owe’ Religious Conservatives?
And remember, Christians are just as susceptible to the seduction of worldly power as anyone else. The editors of TIME may think religious voters ought to be lining up for our share of the spoils, but Christians know we should instead be falling on our knees, asking God to keep us humble. We ought to remember that the job of the Church is to bring biblical truth to bear in society, to win people to Christ, and to promote righteousness and justice. We should remember, as well, that throughout history, Christians have made the greatest inroads in society when we traveled, not among the politically powerful, but among the poor and the powerless. Think of the Wesleyan revivals or of Wilberforce and his reformation of morals in England.
He continues….
We should also beware of allowing the world to define the Church. To the world, power is the name of the game. But Christians know that we are called to humbleness, obedience, and a loving attitude even toward our political enemies.
So is TIME magazine right? Does President Bush “owe us” for helping put him in office?
As one of the twenty-five leaders profiled in the magazine, let me answer: No. Instead of focusing on what we are owed, we need to remember what we owe to God and to our neighbor: to be steadfast witnesses to the truth, and always willing to serve. Let’s follow the example of Christ — not demanding to be served, but serving others.

Ok is George Bush really a true conservative. He passed the Patriot act 1 and 2. He has literally stripped away free speech in this country.

This is a true conservative — I think NOT.
We really need to pray for our Country when a demonic, inspired, Occult member is elected to the highest office in the USA.
Bring on the police state
Pray for our country.
Shalom my friend.

There certainly is a grain of truth here, that we as Christians should be witnesses to the truth rather than demanding “what we’re owed.” But coming from Colson this seems like a bait and switch. After spending several months before the election claiming that we had to elect Bush to stop gay marriage because civilization would crumble otherwise (I don’t think I’m exaggerating his argument), now he says not to worry if Bush doesn’t bother to stop gay marriage. It seems clear from this that he cares a lot more about electing Republicans than about any “Christian” policies.

We agree that Christians aren’t owed anything. By God’s grace we are given mercy and not the justice we deserve. To put it simply: we love others because God loves us. And that means tough love sometimes. That means being truthful and telling others what they need to hear instead of what they want to hear. Gay marriage is not an issue because Chuck Colson and others make it an issue. It’s an issue because it’s harmful to the people involved. That’s what sin does. If we believe that lifestyle to be something other than what God wants or desires for us (as it is apparent in Scripture), then our choice or acceptance of it is disobedience to God and only going to hurt more people. We know that straying from God’s will is not only disobedience, it always leads to consequences of some sort. That’s the nature of all sin. We also know that we don’t live in a vacuum so it’s going to be harmful to more than just the people involved. This is not a political issue. It’s an issue of right and wrong. I believe Chuck Colson is fair minded and gives credit where credit is due, whether they are Democrat or Republicans. And he also will criticize both sides of the aisle. He will stand up for truth, and speak for those that are marginalized in our society. I don’t think he will have a problem with a person of any political background joining him in that goal. The question is…”Where is everybody?” It takes courage to stand up for truth. Bush showed a willingness to stand up for this issue when the other candidates tried to play it from both sides. That’s one of the reasons why Colson supported him…and the lack of other candidates to do so is why they did not get the support from him and many others. That’s not Colson’s fault. Why must he get criticized for standing on and voting for principles? Why aren’t there more politicians who will look at the realities and speak the truth? Colson is not backing off from the issue, rather he is pointing out the spiritual nature of this battle. While Christians support government policies that reflect their faith, they know that these policies are not what the church is all about. But having said that, it can’t be expected that Christians will not be active in politics and support Biblical principles either.

wills and billey: I read the articles. If the Skull and Bones fraternity is the biggest thing you’re afraid of… you need a reality check. I’ve seen worse in fraternities on Christian campuses - I know… I went to a Christian school. There is SO much worse that goes on in regular frat houses in state schools.
As for Bush turning the government into some sort of secret society… the government can’t even keep the location of our troops a secret from the press - even when it puts our soldiers’ lives in danger.
Let’s not forget, Clinton had his own secret *service* in the white house. And if we’re going to launch into college career secrets, let’s start talking about Bill and Hillary’s bong-hittin’ days and hippy free-love youth. Or perhaps we should remember how he put both an intern AND our nation’s security in compromising positions for his own physical gratification.
Spare me.

Christian colleges always pick on State SChools as being so much worse. GET OVER IT. CRIMES happen on Christian schools as well. It is just not publicized due to Private vs. Public .
They are just as good if not better that “Christian” schools.
It doesnt matter where you go , just apply your degree.
Get over it.
