K-Love and Food for the Hungry

Tuesday, December 28th, 2004

Ten percent of the K-Love radio network year-end donations are going to Food for the Hungry and their Tsunami relief effort. So you’re not only keeping great Christian music on the air all around the US and the world (via the internet), you’re helping a great organization reach those that desperately need help.

A word study…

Monday, December 27th, 2004

We discussed this in a recent Sunday School class. I thought it was worth passing on…

Savior - someone who can save us from our sins
Christ, Messiah - ‘The Annointed One’, or the ‘One we are looking for’
Lord - master, owner, one who has power or authority
Peace - inner contentment, serenity, peace of mind

Knowing these words, let’s put it all together…

Jesus: He’s ‘the one we’re looking for.’ He will save us from our sins - if we let Him be Lord of our life…then we will have peace.

Deep Enough to Dream

Tears are falling, hearts are breaking
How we need to hear from God
You’ve been promised, we’ve been waiting
Welcome Holy Child
Welcome Holy Child

Hope that You don’t mind our manger
How I wish we would have known
But long-awaited Holy Stranger
Make Yourself at home
Please make Yourself at home

Bring Your peace into our violence
Bid our hungry souls be filled
Word now breaking Heaven’s silence
Welcome to our world
Welcome to our world

Fragile finger sent to heal us
Tender brow prepared for thorn
Tiny heart whose blood will save us
Unto us is born
Unto us is born

So wrap our injured flesh around You
Breathe our air and walk our sod
Rob our sin and make us holy
Perfect Son of God
Perfect Son of God
Welcome to our world

Here’s some good news…

I found this story by doing some searching…it wasn’t easy.

Wal-Mart’s Salvation Army save

Wal-Mart announced that it will nationally match dollar for dollar the proceeds of all Salvation Army red kettles (up to 1 million dollars) beginning Thursday (12/16) through Christmas Eve.

I guess they feel the need to help pick up the slack from Target stores not allowing them outside of their stores this year. Also, these days it seems like ‘Wal-Mart bashing‘ is the next cool, trendy thing to do. I thought I’d counter all that with a little positive news.

Debating the truth of Scripture…

That’s what happened recently on Pax-TV as they televised a debate between R. Albert Mohler Jr and John Shelby Spong on a program called “Faith Under Fire”…

“And I’m not really interested in a God who works out salvation by killing the Son of God. I find that an act of divine child abuse that I’m not drawn to at all.” - Spong

“The whole question of why Jesus died and the meaning of Christ’s cross and of His resurrection … is the very core of the faith,” Mohler said. “…Christ died in our place as the Savior who died a substitutionary death, paying the price for our sins. That’s not something that has been held by some Christians in some places. That is the heart of Christianity as held by all.” - Mohler

To get a better idea on where Spong is coming from, here is an article on a group of scholars known as the Jesus Seminar of which he is a part…
