South Africa Denies Plans to Cancel Christmas

South Africa has denied a media report that it plans to cancel Christmas. The Sunday Times newspaper ran a banner headline “Christmas may be canceled” above a story quoting a task team evaluating the number of public holidays as warning no holiday should be regarded as sacred in multi-racial, multi-faith South Africa.

Home Affairs Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula told a parliamentary commitee Monday that

I would like to reassure all of you that there is no such report which has been tabled before me.

Homeland Security Arrests Veteran for Complaining Too Much

The QC Times.com website is reporting that inspectors from Federal Protective Services [a branch of the Homeland Security Department] arrested [in front of his family] a Bettendorf chiropractor and veteran Friday accused of making harassing phone calls to the Department of Veterans Affairs office in Des Moines.

The veteran arrested in the article, Dr. Tennant was arrested in front of his family for calling the VA too many times. He did jail time for the offense of ‘harassing’. Although it is a state charge and a misdemeanor Federal Protective Service, or FPS, personnel were involved because the VA office is a federal facility, said special agent Wil Calvey.

In a related story, Ashcroft has resigned. According to FoxNews.com, he gave Bush a five page letter saying the objective of securing the safety of Americans from crime and terror has been achieved.
