Creationism vs. Evolution

There were a couple of news stories today regarding the issue of creationism in the schools.

Wisconsin district to teach more than evolution

School officials have revised the science curriculum to allow the teaching of creationism, prompting an outcry from more than 300 educators who urged that the decision be reversed.

What are they so afraid of?

“Insisting that teachers teach alternative theories of origin in biology classes takes time away from real learning, confuses some students and is a misuse of limited class time and public funds,” said Don Waller, a botanist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Wow, that’s hardly making the case for evolution. I guess that’s what evolution is all about. It doesn’t need to make sense. It doesn’t need to be explained. It just needs to be accepted without question. What’s important is that it gives those that do not like the Biblical creation account an alternative. That’s ok. What’s not ok is now they want to not give anybody the chance to hear both sides and make up their own mind…just as they did.

Here’s another story today…

Trial Begins Over Ga. Evolution Disclaimer

Cobb County schools put the disclaimers in biology texts two years ago after more than 2,000 parents complained the books presented evolution as fact without mentioning rival ideas about the origin of life, namely creationism.

Where’s the ACLU? Ahhhh, there they are…

A group of parents and the American Civil Liberties Union then filed a lawsuit over the stickers. “It’s like saying everything that follows this sticker isn’t true,” said Jeffrey Selman, a parent who filed the lawsuit.

What’s silly is this…

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1987 that creationism was a religious belief that could not be taught in public schools along with evolution.

Reality Check:
It takes more faith to believe in evolution than it does Biblical creation! So when you see evolution, just think of a religious belief - a secular version of the Creation account - without the Bible to back it up. What do they have to back up the evolution theory?

… (insert sound of crickets here)

- Maybe that’s why they don’t want alternative theories of origin taught in class.
