Are we making an idol out of science?

Kerry Promotes Expanded Stem Cell Research

“The hard truth is that when it comes to stem cell research, this president is making the wrong choice to sacrifice science for extreme right-wing ideology,” Kerry said.

First of all, let’s define idealogy.
Merriam-Webster says it is
“a systematic body of concepts especially about human life or culture ”

Ok, now Kerry labels it as extreme ‘right-wing.’ Usually that term is used to label views that are conservative, more specifically, the views held by Bible believing Christians. That bothers me that Kerry, who is Catholic, would use a derogatory term to describe a group that usually includes his brothers and sisters in Christ.
Bush and those that hold his similar view on this are just standing up for what God tells us in His word; that He gives conception, and is intimately involved in our development - every step of the way. Science doesn’t have a right to do something unethical in the name of progress.

Where is the logic on this issue? There are 2 kinds of stem-cell research: embryonic and adult stem cell. The embryonic research is not nearly as promising as the adult stem cell research (we have talked about this previously here), plus it doesn’t involve the killing of a God-given life!

Why is there such misinformation on this?

Kerry called it “a far-reaching ban on federal funding for stem cell research, tying the hands of our scientists, driving some of them away from America.”

It’s not a ban on stem cell research, just a ban on embryonic stem cell research! Again, if embryonic stem cell research is unethical, why should we apologize for trying to stop it? Should we as Christians just sit back and and let the culture blindly make decisions that have far-reaching implications? Why is Kerry (who says he is a believer) not being salt and light on this issue and instead, supporting the view of the culture rather than the church?
