The reality of ‘reality tv’…

The PTC (Parents Television Council ) has been concerned with the content of these programs and compiled some data from a recent study. Here are some interesting notes…

Reality tv makes up 13% of broadcast programming - up from 4% in 1999.

There is an average of 14.5 instances of offensive content (foul language, sex, violence) per hour - up 52.6% from a similar PTC study in October of 2002.

The amount of profanities per hour increased by 273% from 2002.

Sexual references per hour increased by 373% from 2002.

There are about 3.5 more instances per hour of sex and foul language on reality series than on scripted series.
