How Engineering Our Children Robs Us of Our Humanity

How Engineering Our Children Robs Us of Our Humanity

Here’s an interesting article by Chuck Colson where he states…

“…insurance companies often refuse to cover a costly childhood disability that has been detected in utero. Each abortion of a disabled child, besides being a tragedy in itself, brings us one step closer to just this sort of financially coerced eugenics. “

This brings up a scary trend I’ve noticed in politics. More and more critical decisions are being weighed against the financial cost instead of the moral cost. For example…some liberal politicians were against the war in Iraq based on the cost of it in American budgetary dollars. Do we avoid doing something that we know we need to do because it costs too much? What about all of the news hub-bub about obesity amongst Americans? It seems to me that for every person talking about the health risks of being overweight, there is someone else who will tell us how many millions of dollars overweight Americans are costing our healthcare system. It’s scary when people are no longer seen individually but rather as a demographic statistic that eventually interpolates into money lost or saved. I think Chuck Colson is on to something here.
