Jesus and Paul - The Word and the Witness
Jesus and Paul - The Word and the Witness
The three hour primetime special hosted by Peter Jennings on abc-tv last night came and went…for some good commentary on this special, I recommend Answers in Action.
Their summary is very insightful…
Jennings assembled a large cast of experts to share their views with us. Jennings does not identify for us whether any of these experts have any particular faith or belief in Jesus or Christianity. He does not tell us which ones are considered conservative and which liberal. He does not tell us much about their credentials or what has caused him to consider them experts. And by judicious and close cropping of their interviews, he manages to weave their comments so that everyone sounds reasonable and amiable, even though among them they present widely divergent views of Jesus.
It’s important to remember how tv programming can cut/splice commentary in a rapid-fire method to paint almost any picture. I wish these specials would allow for more context so the guests could really explain their views. But that is not really a hindrance for us luckily because we have access to the same Bible that these scholars have access to so I think the most appropriate ending to the special should have been a call to the viewer to read the Bible and decide for himself.
