The upcoming Presidential election

The upcoming Presidential election…

…will not be nearly as much about the war against terrorism or tax cuts as it will be a referendum on the importance of faith in our country.

Case in point…a recent article from the very left-leaning magazine The Nation

Many of these same political activists turned up in November to celebrate President Bush’s signing of the “partial birth” abortion ban. About this happy moment, Jerry Falwell, in a burst of characteristic hogwash, wrote:

After having a wonderful time of fellowship with President Bush, the president asked if we could all join hands and pray that God will bless our efforts to preserve life in our land. What an astounding moment this was for me personally. Standing there in the Oval Office I felt suddenly humbled to be in the presence of a man–our president–who takes his faith very seriously and who seeks the prayers of his friends as he leads our nation. Following the prayer, I told President Bush the people in the room represent about 200,000 pastors and 80 million believers nationwide, who consider him not only to be our president but also a man of God. He humbly turned to me and replied, “I’ll try to live up to it.”

The bold calculation of electoral power, the canny conflation of a sectarian agenda with divisive presidential politics, the syrup of piety poured over both–this is Bush’s America, a country where fundamentalism thrives in the chaos of non-meaning in secular public space. Richard Land has said, “We’re in this for the long haul, and the people on the other side had best understand…we’re winning.” I’m not sure about that, but to prove him wrong we have to be sure we say what we mean, and mean what we say–on the campaign trail, in Congress and in our courts.

It’s hard to follow all of this thanks to the nonsensical wordiness of the writing (with alliteration thrown in at no charge!) but it’s not hard to follow the deeply secular, anti-Christian tone of it.

Atheist Calls Pledge Unconstitutional

>If the rest of the court agrees with Newdow now, it could declare that the phrase “under God” breaches the figurative wall separating church and state. That would mean an end to the Pledge of Allegiance as generations of American schoolchildren have known it.

What this is really about is an attempt by some to remove themselves from any accountability to God, but of course just removing any reminders or denying the truth will not absolve us. Truth is still true even if no one believes it.

Chuck Colson recently stated that removing ‘under God’ from the pledge ‘presumably leaves us as one nation under nothing.’

He goes on to say….

“We declare ourselves free from any moral
law or governor higher than the imperial self, and so we become gods.

Isn’t that descriptive? It sounds like Satan and his desires as recorded in the book of Isaiah…

“I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

It’s ironic that atheists that claim to be “their own person” and not needing “the crutch of religion” are actually doing just the opposite. They are walking the way of the world as influenced by the ruler of this world, the road most taken.

Nine Police Trainees Gunned Down in Iraq

The rationale for the European nations in avoiding the war in Iraq or wanting to “cut and run” from it is that it would only invite terrorism upon themselves.

>Rebels often target police and other Iraqis who work with the U.S.-led coalition that is governing Iraq.

Yet Iraqis seem to be the targets of much of the violence lately. What kind of threat are Iraqi policemen to the perpetrators? What about the other Iraqis that were killed for merely working with the coalition? This conflict is broader than what the European nations tend to think it is, and it is also more insidious. I am reminded of a couple of scriptures…

John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.

John 8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Two confusing stories…

Why are we troubled by a terrorist’s passing?

Here are two confusing stories…

Hamas Leader Killing ‘Unacceptable’ - Britain Tells Israel

US ‘deeply troubled’ by Yassin killing

The United States and Great Britain are leading the world in the fight against terror. While many nations try to bury their heads in the sand and not deal with the threat that terror poses to society, these two countries are fighting (and leading) it with action, not just words. Yet when it comes to the terrorist organizations that are part of the Pro-Palestine/Anti-Israel group, there is wavering, even a tolerance of these particular leaders. What’s the difference between Yassin and Bin Laden? Yassin was the spiritual leader of Hamas just like Bin Laden is the spiritual leader of Al Qaida. We are searching for Bin Laden dead or alive, yet we are grieved when Israel takes out a terrorist that is leading an openly terrorist group that is actively carrying out homicide missions within their borders.

Hamas unashamedly proclaim their hatred toward Israel…

“Words cannot describe the emotion of anger and hate inside our hearts,” said Hamas official Ismail Haniyeh, a close associate of Yassin.

..and they claim that the Palestinian people are behind their mission…

“Yassin is a man in a nation, and a nation in a man. And the retaliation of this nation will be of the size of this man,”

So here is a group that is consumed by hate, trying to incite a multitude into action based upon that hatred. It sounds like Israel is justified to be concerned and actively trying to kill this threat. If Great Britain or the United States had a geographical neighbor saying the things that Hamas is saying, we would do the same thing.

Mars rovers to embark on final mission

Could media be any more obvious about the whole Mars agenda. How many times do I have to listen to useless non-news about the space rovers!? Why do they insist on restating things in the most sensational and least factual ways possible:

“With their primary goal of finding signs of water on Mars achieved, NASA’s twin robot-geologists soon will make tracks across the Red Planet’s barren surface until their batteries run out, NASA officials said on Thursday.”

Come on! You would think - from this article - that they had absolute proof that Mars used to be covered in water. When in reality, they’ve got only a couple of pieces of arguable evidence that imply that Mars might have once had water on it. This is such media hype… and as of yet, no evidence has been peer-reviewed! Don’t waste bandwidth on repeating the same information over and over again… especially when the information consists of - at best - premature conclusions.

Spain’s Leader: Iraq Occupation a ‘Fiasco’

Zapatero had signaled his dislike of President Bush’s policies during the Spanish election campaign when he said he hoped Democratic challenger John Kerry would win in November.

Why does Spain’s new leader care who is President of the United States? It isn’t the Bush administration that is giving them trouble. Spain needs to focus on fighting terrorism in their country and it sounds as if the newly elected socialist party doesn’t have a clue…

“fighting terrorism with bombs … with Tomahawk missiles, isn’t the way to defeat terrorism. … Terrorism is combatted by the state of law. … That’s what I think Europe and the international community have to debate,”

Good luck trying to fight terror with a subpoena or an arrest warrant! I can’t believe that in this day and age where such terror is attacking the nations of the world…that there are so many people that still don’t get it. I guess some people still do not see evil for what it is.

He tried to reassure Spaniards that his government would relentlessly hunt down terrorists.
“They will not have a moment of rest,”

While he hopes he can keep them from getting a good rest at night, the terrorists are already blowing themselves up aboard trains, in planes, etc…
