Ok, so now what?

Now that liberal justices on the Massachusetts Supreme Court have created a law and passed it down to the legislature to take a look at (isn’t that backwards?)….the question is ‘what comes next?’

Dissenting Justice Martha B. Sosman had this to say…

“[I]t is beyond the ability of the Legislature — and even beyond the ability of this court, no matter how activist it becomes in support of this cause — to confer a package of benefits and obligations on same-sex ‘married’ couples that would be truly identical to the entire package of benefits and obligations that being ‘married’ confers on opposite-sex couples.

It looks like this is headed for a vote, where most likely we’ll find that the public is not as willing to go down this road.

Final thoughts on the MTV Super Bowl half time show…

Final thoughts on the MTV Super Bowl half time show… know this is getting redundant and tiresome, so after this…”let us never speak of the Super Bowl half time show again.”)

The fact that the programming director at MTV didn’t have a problem with anything in the performance except for the last 5 seconds should tell us a lot about what they view as quality entertainment.
What’s the difference between having a show where the performers ‘go too far’ and having a show where the performers’ intent is to charade the act of ‘going too far?’ The fact that CBS gave MTV control of the half time should tell us a lot about what they will permit as entertainment. How does this compare to the programming that makes up the CBS primetime lineup? Is the image any less offensive if it’s in a live music performance or if it’s a scene in the latest made-for-tv movie? Is the language any less offensive if it’s part of a half time show or part of the latest television series?
Without a change of the attitudes and behaviors that led to this, there will no doubt be more and more of these types of sorry incidents. Fortunately for MTV and CBS, they’ll never go broke appealing to the lowest common denominator. But unfortunately our youth suffer and so does the culture by settling for such unfulfilling ‘entertainment.’

Massachusetts Ruling Clears Way for Gay Marriage

This is definitely an important story, and will continue to be one for a long time. Now is a good time to see what the 2004 Presidential candidates views are on this….in their own words.
